Will I need someone to take me home?
Yes. Please have a responsible adult drive you to our Center, plan on having them stay at the Center during your procedure and be able to drive you home when you are ready to be discharged. A comfortable waiting area is provided for the person who accompanies you. We request that you leave children at home.
How will I know my surgery time?
You may confirm your appointment time by calling us at (585) 256-3862 after 11:00 a.m. on the business day before your surgery. Please be available on the day of your surgery for a schedule appointment time between 6:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. While you have us on the phone, please feel free to ask us any questions you may have. We will be happy to answer them for you.
Who should be at home after my surgery?
If you do not have anyone at home to help you after discharge, please talk with your doctor's office staff to see what arrangements can be made. Your doctor can give you a good idea of how much help you will need in the days following your surgery.
What should I do if I think I am getting ill?
If you are ill on the day before or the day of your surgery, please call your doctor. If you are unable to reach your doctor, please call Westfall Surgery Center at (585) 256-1330.
Will I speak to someone before my surgery?
Your anesthesiologist will call you the night before your surgery to discuss your anesthetic and answer any questions you may have. The anesthesiologist will instruct you about eating and drinking precautions and whether to take your routine medications.
Can I smoke prior to surgery?
Do not smoke the night before or the day of surgery.
How should I dress?
Wear comfortable clothing that is loose fitting and easy to get on and off. You may be required to change into a patient gown. Do not wear make up or jewelry and leave valuables at home. You do not need to remove nail polish.
What information will I need to bring with me on the day of surgery?
Please bring a photo ID and your insurance cards.
What will happen when I arrive?
After you check in at the Center, you will be brought to the pre-anesthesia area. Your health history will be reviewed with you by a registered nurse, who will help you get ready, answer any questions, and put you at ease before your procedure. You will meet the anesthesiologist who will be providing your care during your procedure. From the pre-anesthesia area, you will be taken to the operating room.
How long will I stay after my procedure?
You will be transferred to our recovery room after your procedure until you are ready to be discharged. Your length of stay will depend on the type of procedure performed and the type of anesthesia you received. You will receive written instructions regarding your care after your procedure. It is very important for you to follow these instructions to promote healing and provide the best possible outcome from your procedure.
What should I do when I go home?
When you get home, you should plan on taking it easy and have someone available to help you at home. For your safety, do not operate machinery, sign important papers, or drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours after you are discharged.
Will someone call me after I go home?
On the next business day following your surgery, one of our registered nurses will call you to make sure that you are doing well and answer any question you may have about your recuperation. Please do not hesitate to call your doctor or 911 at any time if you think the situation is an emergency.
